Simple Salute Black History College Scholarship

At FBT Bank & Mortgage, we know that Black History is an important part of our history as a nation. We’re excited to honor the contributions of African-American Arkansans who have left an indelible mark on the world. In celebration of Black History Month, FBT Bank & Mortgage is inviting high school seniors and college freshmen who are residents of Dallas, Cleveland and Jefferson counties to participate in the bank’s first college scholarship essay and video contest!


Winners receive a $2,500 college scholarship!


How to Enter

  1. Complete An Application

To enter FBT’s Black History Month Scholarship Contest, you must first complete the contest application. This application must be submitted to Joni Alexander (jalexander@fbtbank.com)  before or alongside your submission.


  1. Research

Dive deep and discover an African American from Arkansas who has positively impacted history. Whether they were involved in social or cultural change, science, or the arts, describe how they impacted the world we live in.


  1. Write Your Essay / Record Your Video

Once you have completed your research into the life and legacy of your history maker, start writing or pick up your camera, and get started!


  1. Review and Submit

Review your essay or video, double-check your spelling and email the file to Joni Alexander (jalexander@fbtbank.com) by Friday, February 26, 11:59 p.m. Central Time.


  1. Await Notification

Winning essays or videos will be selected by a diverse panel of judges. If you are selected as a winner, you will be notified regarding the next steps to claim your college scholarship.

Winners will be announced March 10, 2021.



To be to enter this contest and to win an award, you must be a high school senior or college student and meet all of the following applicable criteria:

  • Be a legal U.S. and Arkansas resident of Jefferson, Cleveland or Dallas counties
  • Be age 16 or older
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Plan to or currently attend an accredited college in the United States during the 2021 – 2022 academic school year
  • Agree to provide proof of enrollment (scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the college or university upon proof of enrollment)
